چکیده
Fully microscopic random phase approximation/local density approximation calculations of the dipole plasmon for very large neutral and charged sodium clusters NaN Z1 in the size range 950&N&12 050 are presented. Sixty different sizes are considered altogether, which allows for an in-depth investigation of the asymptotic behavior of both the width and the position of the plasmon. @S0163-1829~98!06432-7#

Coupling of Surface and Volume Dipole Oscillations in C60 Molecules
We first give a short review of the “local-current approximation” (LCA), derived from a general variation principle, which serves as a semiclassical description of strongly collective excitations in finite fermion systems starting from their quantum-mechanical meanfield ground state. We illustrate it for the example of coupled translational and compressional dipole excitations in metal clusters...
متن کاملTriaxially deformed sodium clusters in a self-consistent microscopic description
We have performed self-consistent Kohn-Sham calculations for the triaxially deformed sodium clusters Nal2 and Nat4. We use the jellium approach and compute the properties of the valence electrons with an exchange-correlation energy functional in the local density approximation. In both clusters a pronounced shape isomerism is obtained. We find a well-developed triaxial groundstate deformation f...
متن کاملCalculation of the Induced Charge Distribution on the Surface of a Metallic Nanoparticle Due to an Oscillating Dipole Using Discrete Dipole Approximation method
In this paper, the interaction between an oscillating dipole moment and a Silver nanoparticle has been studied. Our calculations are based on Mie scattering theory and discrete dipole approximation(DDA) method. At first, the resonance frequency due to excitingthe localized surface plasmons has been obtained using Mie scattering theory and then by exciting a dipole moment in theclose proximity of...
متن کاملAnalyzing the Optical Properties and Peak Behavior Due to Plasmon Resonance of Silver Cubic-Shape Nanostructures by Means of Discrete Dipole Approximation
In this article, the optical properties of silver cubic-shape nanostructures (SCNs) were analyzed by employing the discrete dipole approximation (DDA) in aqueous media. The absorption, dispersion and extinction cross-sections of these nanostructures were calculated based on the wavelength change of the incident light in the visible and near infrared region. Moreover, the height change, waveleng...
متن کامل4 A ug 1 99 8 Semiclassical theory of surface plasmons in spheroidal clusters
A microscopic theory of linear response based on the Vlasov equation is extended to systems having spheroidal equilibrium shape. The solution of the linearized Vlasov equation, which gives a semiclassical version of the random phase approximation, is studied for electrons moving in a deformed equilibrium mean field. The deformed field has been approximated by a cavity of spheroidal shape, both ...
